Just updated my Viber to 2.2 today. The new features added to the app include:
- Group messaging,
- Noticeable voice quality improvement, and
- Better user interface.
I've been playing around with the app on Android cell for a little while. And I decided to try it on the Wi-Fi only iPad. Since there is no phone number for my iPad, I used a line line instead. It took me an extra step to obtain the 4-digit confirmation code before I could complete the upgrading process.
Here is how I installed Viber 2.2 on my Wi-Fi only iPad.
- Download the app from Apple App Store, and wait for the app to install;
- When you see the Viber compatibility note, click OK to close the warning;
- Click Continue, and you will see the Viber Setup page;
- Press OK to allow Viber to sync your address book;
- Enter a land line (or cell phone) number for your iPad to use;
- Press Continue;
Since we use a land line (i.e., 999-999-9999), we don't get Viber access code through short message service (SMS). However, if you decide to use a cell phone number instead, you should be able to receive a 4-digit code for your Viber installation.
- Click the "No code" button in the upper-right-hand corner;
- Go to the land line (i.e., 999-999-9999) you entered for your Viber, and press Get Code;
You will see a short note that goes:
"Please wait... You are about to receive an automatic phone call from Viber.
Write down your code, then go to Viber and activate your account"
- Pick up the phone when your land line rings;
- Write down the 4-digit access code you get from the phone;
- Enter your name, and photo image;
- You are ready to call or send text to your friends
Enjoy....
